What's in the box?

Like a kiddo on  Christmas  eve,  I was so giddy waiting for Santa and his elves. Rocking the streets with his motorbike and jacket, Santa finally came and looked for me. As I went out to greet him, he carefully put out my package in his big box loaded on his bike.

I unwrapped my package with joy, and loved the things inside. Just in time for the trip, I received these:

Necklace| turban (Indies) Thanks Macky for the free wooden bead bracelets!

AZTEC PRINT SKIRT (ANTI-FASHION MANILA)

These and santa of Philfox surely made my day! Made me all set to my sweet escape!

From ORANGE to BRONZE

When I was little( well, still am) I used to sneak in my mom's room, face the mirror and play with her colorful palettes of make-up. At times, I'd even be caught singing and dancing in front of the mirror after i doll myself up. But what seemed to be my fancy when I was young, i outgrew during my teenage years.

I didn't like the idea of putting on make-up everyday. Before, I'd even get cynical to those whose faces are all made up just to go to school. (or maybe I am just tad bit jealous because I don't know how to blend and strut it off) In college, we also had lessons on grooming and make-up and was required to apply what's taught in class. I, was resolved to a little pat of powder on my face, and gloss on my lips. NO MORE, NO LESS.

Then I went to SoFA and had to drag myself to make-up class because it was part of my course. I admit, that was all I ever thought of, I have to attend the basic make-up subject because I have to, but eventually i enjoyed it. Metro magazine, beauty editor, Ms. Charmagne Gacia-Lanconico, surely made it interesting and taught us well. As I told her, I never knew I had a skill in applying make-ups, till she noticed my skill on blending and brought me to a magazine shoot and entrusted me of prepping a brazillian model. Yay! so I decided to add eye-brow and mascara to my beauty regime. jk. ;)

Now you judge my work, here are some photos taken during my final exam. My peg: bronze make-up!

Putting on make-up ain't easy but the key to achieve the look you want, is not to cover what you want hidden, or splash on make-ups to change your face entirely but to just enhance your already beautiful features to make you even more beautiful.

got a lil help pulling that make-up look from this video clip by VittoriasVanity. :)

Bon Appetit

First term of schooling's almost over, been busy these past few weeks juggling final requirements and work. Photo shoots, styling conceptualization, make-up practices and writing articles for the magazine kept  me away from blogging. Good thing I only have one subject left, then I'm good to say "it's a wrap!" and focus more on my job.

Since I have more time now, let me share  what we did for Fashion Styling. We were given a challenge to make a fashion editorial with the theme: ORANGE. Ms. Marina Benipayo, said we shouldn't take it literally, so my partner and I thought 'deeply'(haha), we wanted to show the other side of orange other than bright and happy, we opted to give the "readers" something different.

After tons of research we found that orange stimulates the appetite of the good things in life; includes material things, and sexual appetite. Then poof "Bon Appetit- feast of velvets, sheers and metallic frills- devour SEXY" came up! :)

Part of our final requirement is to make our own accessory and to re-construct a shirt.

Studying in SoFA is so fun, doesn't feel like studying at all. Maybe that's the effect when you really want something and it hits your interest. My favorite subject for this term is Basic Fashion Styling, with of course, haute couture model Ms. Marina Benipayo as our teacher.

Last week, we went to Inches Shop in Trinoma, and styled their mannequins for the cold/rainy season. Styling is not as easy as i thought. It's not just about matching clothing, shoes and accessories, and creating a fab outfit.  It's more on conveying a story behind every piece put together to create  a masterpiece. So, what's your story to tell?

Trial and error

During my sister's graduation, my family and I went to Baguio. I was so excited because we stayed at Manor, and thought it was a perfect place to do a shoot. Weeks before the event, I asked my cousin Merce to model for me and my photographer friend Ronald to help me build up my portfolio in my quest to enroll at SoFA and be a stylist.

If I'm not mistaken, I packed 8 sets of outfits for the shoot but to my dismay Manor's admin did not allow us to to do our shoot inside the hotel grounds, they freaked out when they saw Ronald's GIGANTIC reflector and thought it was for a magazine or something. *sigh* So we opted for the playground nearby for the shoot and only had few shots due to time constraints.

and so I joined the fun!

It was a tad bit frustrating day because of the delays and mishaps with the location, but when with your family and friends surely you'll find a way to clear the coast.

We ended the night with a sumptuous dinner with the family. And Oh, I also did the styling for my sister's graduation outfit. here's the most decent pic I can find:

the camera challenge: 1 | Basic Fashion Portraits in natural lighting

The first outdoor activity we had for my photography class is to Submit 3 photos taken natural/available light showing textures and 3 photos taken in natural/available light showing saturation/color. My group got the desaturated and soft images challenge.

Here's my attempt to being a fashion photographer. haha

the camera challenge: 2 | the importance of post-photography work in fashion photography

I'm not a fan of Adobe, Corel, and all those other photo editing applications. The only editing app I use is Picasa or Instagram's instant make-over tones. I did not know it was a must for photography, but then I learned there was a need to learn the basic tricks. Here's another activity for my Photography class.

Activity 2 is all about post processing, the main objective is to present a final image/photo with black and white photo background and skin-tone (including hair) by using the PEN TOOL, leaving the clothes and accessories the only things with color. This gave me a bit of a difficult time, without the use of a mouse. good thing Jordan cooperated well. :)

For those who are not so good in Adobe Photoshop, like me. Here's a copy of the cheat-sheet I used. Hope it will be of help, should you wish to try this kind of editing! Here I used, Adobe Photoshop, CS5. Happy editing!
