Maid of honor on duty!

July has been a crazy month for me- adjusting to city life, busy work skeds, tons of schoolwork, and fulfilling my Maid of Honor duties. My sister got married a few weeks ago, and as Maid of Honor got one big task of hosting the bridal shower.

Despite the busy sked, i was able to pull the event through but not as fab as i wanted it to be. Lesson learned: PREPARATION IS KEY. So for this post, I shall not only post pics of the bridal shower but will also relay different themes and ideas for a successful bridal shower.

Step 1: Select a theme. In choosing a theme, creativity is your best bud although with today's techie world selecting a theme is so easy. It's just one click away with the help of our ever dearest Google. New theme ideas are: bowling shower, yoga shower, spa shower, wine and cheese tasting and craft shower. For my sister's shower, I chose the "blast from the past" theme. :)

Step 2: To-do-list. This is the most important part in planning a bridal shower. Here you'll list all the things you need: program, food, things you need for decors etc. Make sure not to miss any of the things on your list. Remember, the smallest detail makes up the whole event.

Step 3: Prepare Games. Bridal shower and games are as what we coin in Filipino "Kambal". One without the other wouldn't be complete. It is also what a lot of guests look forward to.  Here's a fun game, we girls would have a difficulty doing. If it's easy-where's the fun in that right?

The Clothespin Game
To begin, choose a "buzz word" such as bride, groom, wedding, etc. When each person comes into the party, hand them a clothespin. Then, if someone hears another person saying the "buzz word," they get to take that person's clothespin. The person with the most clothespins at the end of the party wins. (Another variation is that a guest loses her clothespin when she crosses her legs, a hard task for a party full of women!) -- from http://weddings.about.com/od/theweddingparty/a/ShowerGames.htm

Step 4: Surprise the bride! Yes, yes it is usual to give presents to the bride, common gifts are those sexy and thrilling gifts for the bride and groom's honeymoon. This idea is fun, but it's also not a bad idea to give the gift giving with a twist, make her heart melt instead. Besides, she'd be expecting sexy gifts anyway. So for the bridal shower i organized, what i did was ask all the guests for mementos instead of the sexy lingeries. Each of the guests brought something that reminded them of my sister, a gift that would take them back to the most memorable moment they had together.

I decided to hold my sister's bridal shower at our backyard. We watched movies from our childhood, and also Wimbledon because Keith and Mara are both tennis players. Food were just the common pica-pica, cozy environment and warm company of cousins and friends. and oh, the highlight: I didn't have enough fund to hire a stripper so i had my 3yr old nephew to entertain us instead! :)

entertainer of the night, my nephew ETHAN.

the happy bride!
